Protocols :
- Bluetooth has become a standard feature, as it is integrated in almost 1.3 billion devices worldwide, 800 million of which are mobile phones. It enables to connect two devices like a mobile phone to a pair of loudspeakers, a handsfree kit to a car, a wireless headset etc.
- Wifi has also become a standard feature, as it allows to make point-to-point connections (connection to a shared hard disk, a printer, a drone etc.) or to a hotspot in order to be connected to a network (internet through an ADSL box, for instance).
- Customized RF (radio frequency) solutions are more and more used in solutions which do not require an interconnection with other solutions. Protocols are chosen according to the use and objective of the solution (example, use of Wavenis protocol in order to extend equipment battery life).
- 2G/2.5G/2.75G solutions (GSM/EDGE/GPRS) are still the favorite solutions on emerging markets thanks to the reduced costs related to the deployment of their infrastructures. 2.5G/2.75G remain the infrastructures with the best coverage, as they allow to offer internet services (anywhere in the world) for ever more powerful devices at extremely affordable prices.
- 3G technology (UMTS, TD-SCDMA) has become a part of our daily lives, as it allows the convergence of data and multimedia services. Nowadays, the intensive deployment of 3G infrastructures throughout the world, as well as the diversity of features offered by mid-range and high-end mobiles has transformed the user profile: they are more and more demanding, they are used to connecting wherever they may be located by using any type of technology (3G, 2G, Wifi).
- The first demonstrations of the pre-4G (3.9G or LTE) were made in 2009 (for the infrastructure part) and in 2010 for mobile receivers. Total IP convergence and the transfer speed brought by 4G (LTE Advanced) push manufacturers into a race of technological and economic innovation for launching the first commercial product.
